Black Friday is coming – here’s how to avoid scams
Brace yourselves, Black Friday is coming – or is it already here? When do Black Friday offers take place in Hungary? Why is there more than one date? And what should you pay attention to when shopping? Let’s get to the bottom of these questions.
When we hear Black Friday, we think of huge sales, jam-packed malls, and pulling all-nighters spent with placing the orders on goods you have been waiting to get your hands on for so long. The end of November is also the perfect time to get the Christmas presents for the family so that you can avoid the rush in December.
Black Friday does not have such a big tradition in Hungary as in the US (where they also offer even bigger and crazier discounts), which you may tell from how chaotic the whole situation is. You might be confused when you stroll around Budapest or Hungarian websites and you see different dates from store to store on Black Friday offers. Let us help you clear this up a little bit.
Instead of having the exact date of Black Friday – which is the Friday following Thanksgiving, so this year it is 27 November – with huge discounts, Hungarian stores for some reason have been having smaller but still decent discounts on their products weeks before the actual date. If you do not want to miss the best offers, it is best to keep your eyes peeled on your favourite stores as early as the beginning/middle of November.
As Blikk reported, The Hungarian Ministry for Innovation and Technology (ITM) has also warned the public to be cautious during the shopping bonanza. The ministry’s advice on how to make the most of the Black Friday sales without avoiding scams would be the following:
- Compare the prices from different stores – the price of a discounted product at one store could easily be the same or even cheaper at their original price in other stores.
- When ordering online, check the location of the store – shipping time could be important, for example, when you order Christmas presents or will have to send items back.
- Do not order from stores that do not provide the general terms and conditions or contact details other than an email address on their website.
- It can be useful to take screenshots of the information during the ordering process.
- It is good to check your order in the presence of the delivery person in order to make sure it is intact, but also check the delivery policies on the website in advance.
We wish you stress-free shopping.
